Botox Cosmetic FAQs

What is Botox® Cosmetic?

Botox Cosmetic is a simple, nonsurgical treatment that relaxes the muscles to improve the appearance of expression lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet and forehead. This treatment will help to decrease permanent expression lines over time.

When will I see results from a Botox® Cosmetic treatment?

Within days, you may see a marked improvement in the moderate-to-severe lines and wrinkles in treated areas. Lines continue to improve for up to 30 days, and results can last for up to 4 months. Individual results may vary.

Is treatment with Botox® Cosmetic painful?

Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. The entire procedure takes approximately 15-20 minutes. Most patients are in and out of the office without downtime following Botox Cosmetic treatment.

Possible side effects associated with the injection includes localized pain, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, temporary redness, and/or bleeding/bruising.

Do treatment results differ?

Yes, individual results may vary. To get the best results, it’s important to go to a provider who is experienced in, and specializes in administering Botox Cosmetic. At Pūr Skin Clinic, our providers specialize in Cosmetic Dermatology and have decades of combined experience, treating thousands of patients every year with excellent results.

How does Botox® Cosmetic work?

Botox® Cosmetic works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes the persistent lines and wrinkles to form in treated areas. Aging skin and wrinkles result from a combination of many factors. It’s not just about cellular changes, collagen depletion, hormone loss, or damage caused by free radicals. Facial wrinkles and lines result from muscle contractions. When you concentrate, squint, or frown, the muscles cause your skin to furrow and fold. After years of frequent contraction, those wrinkles can linger even after the muscles are at rest.

Dermal Fillers FAQs

What Dermal Fillers are offered at Pūr Skin Clinic?

Pūr Skin at Gene Juarez offers JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC, JUVÉDERM ® Ultra, JUVÉDERM Ultra Plus, Restylane®, Perlane™, RADIESSE® and Belotero Balance®

What is JUVÉDERM® XC?

JUVÉDERM® XC is a non-surgical filler your provider uses to instantly smooth out the lines along the sides of your nose and mouth. JUVÉDERM XC is also commonly used in the lips, providing full, natural looking results. It can provide natural-looking results for up to a year with optimal treatment.

What is JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC?

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC injectable gel is for injection in the cheek area to correct age-related volume loss. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC can also be used to target the tear trough area underneath the eye, which tends to get hollow looking as we age. VOLUMA is FDA approved to last up to two years.

What is Restylane and how does it work?

Restylane works immediately by adding volume to smooth away wrinkles. A clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid, Restylane is specifically formulated to act like your body's own hyaluronic acid, and eventually breaks down naturally.

What is Perlane and how does it work?

Just like Restylane®, Perlane is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid that is specifically formulated to act like your body's own hyaluronic acid, adding volume and fullness to the skin. Perlane and Restylane can be used to treat different areas, your provider will recommend the best option for you.

What is RADIESSE®?

RADIESSE® Volumizing Filler is an injectable wrinkle filler that works by immediately restoring facial volume to smooth out the signs of aging. Once injected, not only does it immediately add volume but over time, RADIESSE Volumizing Filler begins to stimulate the production of the body's natural collagen for results that may last up to a year.

What is Belotero Balance?

Belotero Balance is an injectable filler that is used to smooth moderate-to-severe etched-in lines and wrinkles on your face. Upon injection, it quickly and evenly integrates into your skin.

What should I expect after my treatment?

There is no significant downtime with dermal fillers and you will notice an immediate softening of creases and folds, with continued collagen stimulation that will last 9-12 months on average.

What are common side effects of dermal filler treatments?

Every patient reacts to the injection process differently. Common side effects are tenderness, swelling and potential bruising to treatment sites which can last up to two weeks. Dermal fillers should not be used if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. By discontinuing the use of aspirin products, fish oil and red wine a few days prior to your appointment, the likelihood and duration of side effects significantly reduces.
  • Ultherapy

Ultherapy is the only FDA-cleared procedure to non-invasively lift the eyebrow, neck and under chin area; or improve lines and wrinkles on the décolletage.

Ultherapy works by using safe and effective ultrasound energy, which reaches to the deepest levels of the skin. The effects will build gradually over two to three months as new, stronger collagen is created. Further improvements can appear up to six months following the procedure, as the collagen-building process continues to lift the skin.

    • Ultherapy
      $499 - $4,500

Ultherapy FAQ

How does Ultherapy work?

Ultherapy’s secret is ultrasound energy. This treatment incorporates traditional ultrasound imaging, which allows Medical Spa providers see the layers of tissue they are treating, ensuring the treatment energy is delivered where it will be most beneficial and safe.

Ultherapy deposits focused ultrasound energy deep beneath the skin at the optimal temperature for collagen regeneration. The ultrasound energy reaches all the way to the deepest levels of the skin; the same levels as those affected in surgical face lifting. This treatment jumpstarts a natural renewal process, known as neocollagenesis, to produce fresh, new collagen. This new collagen lifts and tightens the many layers of the skin for a natural, long term, noticeable result.

When will I notice results?

After your Ultherapy treatment you may see some initial effect, but the ultimate results will take place over 2-3 months, as your body naturally regenerates collagen. The visible results from Ultherapy can last from 12-24 months, depending on your body’s natural aging process.

Which areas are treated?

Ultherapy is designed to treat the entire face including above the brow line, below the chin, the neck, and the décolletage (chest). Your provider can tailor a treatment plan for you at the time of your consultation depending on your areas of concern.

What does Ultherapy feel like?

Comfort levels vary from person to person. Many patients describe the sensation as momentary prickling or heat beneath the skin. This is the ultrasound energy being delivered into the tissue, which is how Ultherapy lifts and tightens the skin.

How many treatments are recommended?

Our providers recognize best results up to 1 year and recommend continued yearly treatments to keep up optimal results. During your consultation, a Medical Spa provider will create a customized treatment plan for you, to include suggested treatment areas, number of treatments, and future treatments for upkeep.

Is this treatment safe?

The FDA-cleared Ultherapy procedure has been used safely in over 350,000 treatments worldwide. Ultrasound energy has been used safely in the medical field for more than 50 years. In addition, every Ultherapy practitioner receives extensive procedural training. The innovative Ultherapy system allows us to see beneath the skin exactly where we are treating, so there is no guesswork of what tissue level we are actually treating. At all times your provider can view skin structures to be sure you are treated precisely, safely and at maximum beneficial treatment levels.

Who performs this treatment?

The treatments are performed by our Cosmetic Dermatology Specialist Denice Schwind PA-C, Jill Kandora, PA-C or our Master Medical Esthetician in conjunction with your medical provider.

Who is a good candidate for Ultherapy?

Ultherapy is an ideal treatment option for someone with skin that has become lax often looking and feeling less firm. Optimal candidates are men and women of all ages with mild to moderate skin laxity. One of our medical providers will evaluate if you are an appropriate candidate at the time of your consultation.

What can I expect after my treatment?

Most patients are able to return to normal activities immediately after treatment. The skin may appear a bit flushed immediately after Ultherapy, but any redness should disappear within a few hours.

How long will results last?

Your skin will continue its natural aging process, so you may need to schedule an annual “touch-up” visit to maintain your results. Many patients receive good clinical results with a single treatment, though some people who have a fair amount of laxity may benefit from more than one treatment.
  • Kybella
    $600 - $2500

Kybella is a groundbreaking, non-invasive treatment for submental fullness. In the past, the only effective options for reducing stubborn fat under the chin was surgical procedures or liposuction; however, now this fat can be eliminated through a series of simple injections.

A series of injections are recommended, however the number of sessions will depend on your aesthetic goals and your medical providers recommendations. Following a Kybella treatment, patients may experience temporary bruising, swelling, or numbness; however, these side effects are short-lived and patients can go right back to their normal activities. Patients will begin to see results in the following 6-8 weeks after their treatment.

Kybella FAQ

Is Kybella right for me?

Submental fullness can occur even if a person is not overweight and tends to make someone seem heavier than they really are. An exercise routine that targets double chins does not exist. If lifestyle and diet changes haven’t reduced the fat under your chin, chances are it’s not going to improve. If you are concerned with fat underneath your chin, Kybella could be perfect for you.

However, if a person is suffering from loose or sagging skin under the chin, Kybella may not be the right choice. Kybella targets fat cells, not loose skin. If you have sagging skin under your chin you’d like to get rid of, Ultherapy or Thermage, may be better for you. Schedule a consultation with one of the cosmetic dermatology specialists at Pur Skin Clinic to find out if Kybella is right for you.

What is Kybella (Deoxycholic Acid)?

Kybella consists of deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of fat. When Kybella is injected into the fat under the chin, the fat cells are targeted and destroyed, then naturally eliminated by the body. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat again.

  • Kybella (deoxycholic acid) injection is the first and only FDA-approved injectable drug that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness (double chin) due to submental fat.
  • Deoxycholic acid is a manmade form of a substance your body makes that helps to breakdown fats. Deoxycholic acid and works by destroying fat cells where it is injected into the body.

How does Kybella work?

Kybella consists of deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule found in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into fat, Kybella causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.

How is Kybella administered?

Kybella is administered by multiple injections into the fat under the chin. Each in-office treatment session is typically 15-20 minutes. Treatment with Kybella is customized by the medical provider to the patient’s aesthetic goals for an improved chin profile.

How many treatments will I need?

You and your medical provider will customize your Kybella treatment regimen, including how many treatments you need, based on your desired chin profile. Your medical provider will give you a multiple injections under your chin at each treatment session. Each session is spaced about a month apart. Many patients experience visible contouring of their chin profile in 2-4 treatment sessions spaced at least 1 month apart. Up to 6 treatments may be administered.

Will I experience any side effects?

The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, tenderness, numbness, redness and around the treatment area. Kybella very rarely can lead to serious side effects, including trouble swallowing and nerve injury in the jaw that can cause an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness.

When will I see results?

Patients will begin to see results in the following 6-8 weeks after their treatment.

How long will the results last?

When injected into the fat under your chin, Kybella causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. Therefore, results are long lasting.

What is The Eclipse Micropen Treatment and how is it performed?

The Eclipse Micropen Treatment channels the reparative power of the skin’s natural healing response by using 12 tiny needles to create precisely targeted micro-injuries. These small injuries then trigger the body’s wound-healing response and the synthesis of new collagen. The depth of these micro-injuries has been meticulously calculated to avoid the formation of new scar tissue while stimulating the wound healing response and manufacturing new collagen cells. To accelerate and support this healing and repair process and to stimulate thorough skin rejuvenation, we apply variety of different serums to the treatment area to promote skin regeneration such as hyaluronic acid and natural growth factors. The Eclipse Micropen Treatment offers the added benefit of allowing for deeper skin product penetration, thereby enhancing the efficacy of your skin treatments and at-home skincare regimen.

What types of conditions does The Eclipse Micropen Treatment treat?

A variety of skin problems can be addressed using The Eclipse Micropen Treatment such as:
  • Sun Damage
  • Trauma or Surgical Scars
  • Discoloration and signs of aging caused by sun exposure
  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Inconsistent skin color, tone and texture
  • Enlarged pores and broken capillaries
  • Acne scarring, surgical scarring and stretch marks

At-home vs. Medical Eclipse Micropen Treatment?

While micro-needling can be performed at home, micro-needling done by a medical provider is considered safest and most effective. The needles on in-office micro-needling devices range in size from 0.5mm to 2.5mm — deeper needles are superior since they incite greater skin regeneration. The home version's needles are only 0.2mm and won't produce the same collagen-inducing stimulation that medical grade needles will. Additionally, the serums used in a medical office during a micro-needling treatment are medical grade. Patient’s results are maximized at Pur Skin Clinic Medical Spa at Gene Juarez by combining the safest device on the market, customized treatment depth based on desired results & the highest quality medical grade products, ensuring optimal results.

What types of serums do you use with Micropen?

At Pur Skin clinic we offer 3 types of serums to use topically on the skin with The Eclipse Micropen Treatment.
  • Hyaluronic acid, which is found naturally occurring in the body, is used to plump the skin, give hydration, as well as stimulating collagen regeneration.
  • Growth Factors (GF) harness the power of nature’s stem cell. Growth factors are naturally occurring proteins that stimulate stem cells to become new collagen making your skin look and feel smoother and younger!

Who is a candidate for micro-needling?

The Eclipse Micropen Treatment can be used to treat all types of skin and addresses a wide range of skin problems. One of our medical providers will evaluate if you are an appropriate candidate at the time of your consultation.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments required will be determined by your provider based upon your individual treatment goals and the state of your skin. However, it is recommended for most patients to receive a series of 3-6 treatments spaced about 4-6 weeks apart for best results.

What does The Eclipse Micropen Treatment feel like?

  • Hair Restoration Therapy
    $1,000 per treatment

According to recent estimates, over 50 million men and 30 million women in the United States are affected by hair loss and thinning. A number of treatments have emerged over the years to address this problem. One of the latest, cutting edge, minimally invasive treatments uses a Micropen with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) for hair restoration. Consultation Required.

Hair Restoration Therapy FAQ

How is a Micropen used for Hair Restoration Therapy?

Micropen treatment stimulates the body’s natural healing process, thereby increasing the production of particular proteins responsible for the development of new hair follicles. The Micropen creates micro-channels in the skin with 12 tiny needles, creating micro-injuries which trigger the body’s immune system and the synthesis of new collagen and hair follicles. This can lead to significant hair growth improvement for men and women suffering from hair loss.

Who is a candidate for Hair Restoration Therapy?

One of the most exciting things about Hair Restoration Therapy is that it can be used to address a wide range of patients affected by hair loss. A Pur Skin Clinic Medical Provider will evaluate if you are an appropriate candidate at the time of your consultation. It is recommended for most patients to receive a series of 4-6 treatments spaced about 4-6 weeks apart for best results. You can expect to see 10-15% improvement in your hair after each treatment.

What is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and why is it used?

By coupling Micropen treatment with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), one can get significantly enhanced results from Hair Restoration Therapy. PRP is collected through a simple blood draw, centrifuged to extract the enriched cells and reintroduced into the skin during the Micropen procedure. PRP provides growth factors that activate the stem cells in the scalp. When activated, those stem cells grow new, thicker hair follicles. The end result is better hair follicle growth, creating a richer and more youthful look to your hair!

How soon do you see results?

Hair will be noticeably thicker within weeks. Improvement can continue for up to 6 months after treatment, as collagen production and hair follicle stimulation continues.
