Makeup for the New Year!
The new year is upon us, and with that comes words like refresh, renew, and my personal favorite--reinvent!
Now ladies, just because I want to continue to reinvent myself doesn't mean I'm not happy with who I am. What Gene Juarez has taught me over the last ten years, is that asking the first question, "What kind of woman do you want to be?" is allowing you a moment to get a sense of who that is...and then allowing us to take you on that journey. Makeup doesn't always mean done up. Makeup isn't always about changing who you are, for each woman relates to the words refresh, renew and reinvent differently.
A good place to start is the skin. This literally is the foundation ( no pun intended ) that creates the stability that your entire look is built on. A Makeup Update is one service you can experience that will allow a makeup artist the chance to blend your skin and you a chance to begin the journey.
I have a few tricks up my sleeve and will be sharing it here throughout the year, so look forward not back ..and watch beauty with makeup unfold!

Golden Globes Recap - fashion, hair, makeup, and "What was she thinking?!"
Top five women of the golden globes
1. Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace - perfect head to toe... Amazing fit. Perfect lip and hand bag color. Regal and rich. Personally I'm not in love with the dress. But the look is striking!
2.Charlize Theron in Dior- as a spokesmodel for Dior she has been wearing the house exclusively. Last year with the rosettes on the bust line she was a red carpet disaster! This appearance was most improved! A great beauty with a flawless look and only one slight misstep... Her hair seemed juvenile and a bit messy for the dress.
3. Sophia Vergara in Vera Wang- what can we say... Wow! Beautiful fit, interesting color, simple hair with a heavily detailed dress! And the personality to wear it all!
4. Emma Stone in Lavin - this girl is just for the fashionistas! She is smart, cool, wearing gorgeous colors with runway styling that knocked me out!
5. Kate Beckinsale in Roberto Cavalli- she is the girl women would like to be and men want to be with... Perfection. She is the girl that can wear that hot blush color and not look pale. The dress was a little tight but otherwise a flawless look!
Honorable mentions
1. Viola Davis- hippest haircut! So fun and fresh!
2. Nicole Kidman - what a gorgeous fit on that dress... Brilliant design.
3. Rooney Mara- just a cool girl with a super cool look! And the perfect make-up...the perfect brows wow!
Funny red carpet thoughts
1.Lea Michelle- Johnny Wier called and wants his skating costume back!
2. Sarah Michelle Geller- was she attacked by a rogue fountain pen?
3. Heidi Klum- are you heading to a party in Capri after the globes? Seasonally inappropriate!

Alicia's Experience!
My name is Alicia and I wanted to submit a little something to let the Alderwood Gene Juarez Salon and Spa know what great service they provide. I always enjoy my Gene Juarez escape, and this time it was to update my hair color and style.
I met Riley for the first time yesterday and was pleasantly surprised with his personality and talent. Getting in the chair with someone new can be hard at times, but I felt connected and confident with Riley. He's very artistic outside of being a skilled colorist and it definitely shows in his work. He gave me exactly what I asked for, which was to ensure that my hair didn't look too brassy or orange in tone. He did a full balayage on me and I love love LOVE the color. I'll be sure to see him again for my next appointments.
It's always a treat getting a couture cut from Jet. She has cut my hair before and every time I schedule my appointments, I'll be sure that she's available as I won't go see anyone else. Every visit I leave feeling great and loving my new hair cut. Its always a delight to reconnect with Jet and she's such a DOLL.
I just wanted to let everyone know that if you don't know Jet or Riley, you best come to the Gene Juarez in Alderwood Mall and find out what you've been missing!
If you have had an experience you would like to share with us, post it on our Facebook wall with your photo! You might get chosen next month to be our lucky contributor!

Hair Color--Welcome in 2012 by Taking a Look back
2012 has arrived and it is time to refresh our look and perhaps refresh how people perceive us.
Studies have shown that brunettes are perceived as smart and serious, redheads are perceived as strong, and to no one’s surprise blondes are perceived as fun and flirty.
With the advent of the first safe commercial hair color in 1909 by Eugene Schuller (who named his company L’Oreal), women of every age are able to safely color their hair any color they wish.
We at Gene Juarez are happy and proud to use L’Oreal hair color products, including the newest technology in hair color, Inoa. This hair color delivers uncompromising shine, brilliant colors and 100% grey coverage.
We would love women to come and help us interpret how they would like to be perceived in 2012. Our expert hair colorists can help you create the perfect shade. A rich chocolate brown or a deep chestnut brown for those of you that would like people to take you seriously, a vibrant auburn or a beautiful strawberry blonde for those of you that want people to see you as strong and assertive, or a bright sun kissed blonde for those of you that want to have fun and be the life of the party! Whatever shade you choose we can create and maintain that look for you.
Let 2012 be the year that you take control of how you are perceived. Whether it is highlights, a solid color, or a dimensional tone on tone shade let hair color be your friend and a great tool for your success.
Here’s to a very colorful 2012!
