Aroma Remedy Massage

Every molecule has a scent...

Have you ever slipped back in time with the smell of a particular scent? An aroma hits your nostrils and instantly your brain rummages through old memories trying to remember events, places, and people. For better or worse you feel instantly transported to another place and time and as quickly as the scent came it’s gone. Maybe you passed a bakery and the fresh out of the oven buttery scent reminds you of the holidays with your family, or the smell of chlorine reminds you of summers spent at the pool. I was taking a walk yesterday and the smell of roses from a neighboring garden reminded me of my grandfather and summers over 20 years ago watching him tend to his roses.

Humans can identify approximately 10,000 different scents and our sense of smell is strongly tied to the area of the brain that controls our memories and emotions. When you inhale the scent its picked up by your olfactory (smell) receptors and directly transmitted to your brain’s limbic system, the seat of your emotions and memories, but your limbic system also regulates your breathing, blood circulation, and hormone levels.

Aromatherapy works on a similar, but far more powerful level. Aromatherapy is the therapeutic use of essential oils, potent yet gentle concentrations of aromatic essences derived from nature’s most healing plants. Often considered the immune system of the plant, these essences are utilized through inhalation and topical applications. By entering our blood stream, these healing molecules begin to detoxify, increase respiration, aid in restful sleep, relax muscular tension, and calm the mind.

Many people, although unaware, have unconsciously been enjoying the benefits of aromatherapy for years. If you’ve ever perched your nose over a steaming mug of chamomile tea, the aroma promotes sleep and soothes digestion. Or maybe you enjoy lavender candles. Studies show that smelling lavender reduces anxiety and acts as a natural air purifier. Likewise, a mentholated cough drop uses extracts of eucalyptus to relieve congestion, ease coughs, and release tension. And a wedge of lemon in your water relieves fluid retention and promotes a healthy liver. Many use aromatherapy through these methods, but one of the most therapeutic uses is through an aromatherapy massage.

So saying that, I thought you should know that GJ is buzzing with excitement and enthusiasm, over the launch of our new Aroma Remedy Massage! We have partnered with Hope Gillerman (a Master Aromatic Healer) to incorporate her fabulous H. Gillerman Organics line of 8 organic and wild crafted essential oil remedy blends. The line treats common aliments with easy to use essential oil drops and roll-ons including a Sinus, Chest, Stress, Muscle, Sleep, Travel, Tension, and Jaw-Clenching Remedy. For me it was love at first sniff, not only did these remedies give me goose bumps of delight every time I smelled them and used them, but they actually did what they claimed. With these products we have created 4 customized aromatherapy massages that therapeutically address various symptoms associated with everyday stresses while enhancing your current state of well-being.

Fall 2010

With the start of season, I inevitably find myself in awe of the creative abundance. The talent and drive displayed by designers on the runway is staggering, not to mention the work of the models, hairdressers, make-up artists, behind the scenes support staff, photographers and PR firms, to create a seamless story and engage the world in a particular idea or point of view for the season. It is this seamless story that ultimately ignites women to seek out inspirational pieces of the season's line to incorporate into their own wardrobe and evolve their personal style.

The past few seasons that have focused on austerity (that's code for economic downturn) have made the design world desperate for glamour and drama. We too, as consumers, have not been particularly compelled to purchase the dark, depression era inspired clothes of the last few years.

Enter Fall 2010... hooray!!

The PrĂȘt-a-Porte collections for the Fall 2010 season were full of lively exploration into texture, curve, and color. A season of fur, feathers, plaid, thigh high boots, gaga-esque monster heels, corsetry, and military overcoats, illuminated with vibrant plums, acid yellows, rich camels and aged gilt pastels! The message is clear from the catwalk, "Glamour and Drama have returned!"

Now with that being said, the eternal question is… "How does that apply to my everyday life?"

What we, the Team Artistic of Gene Juarez Salon and Spa try to show each season is a way to take the trends and pair them with wearable hair, make-up and nails artistry. Our message this season for our salon guest is a ‘Wherever! Whenever!’ story, that is easily translated from the runway to the real world.

We took to a Seattle landmark The Experience Music Project with an established fashion photographer from Los Angeles, Sinisha Nisevic to tell The Gene Juarez story of the season.

The First element we addressed was volume! Layers of faux fur and fantastic tailoring demanded full, wind swept hair. Our models were running for fashion with the new Baybliss hot roller set in place and a golden-rose palette on their faces custom blended by our make-up team! And not to mention each models striking hair color created with L’Oreal’s new ENOA hair color, they looked fresh and vital on the steps of the EMP!

The second element we addressed was glamour and so we headed inside the EMP to the grand staircase! Starring gowns from our friend, local couturier Luly Yang, we framed our models faces with an upswept French braid coiffure, while the make-up statement was all about the brows, and nails were gilt and glittered like many of the season’s most beautiful gowns.

So with this vision of the season in mind, volume and glamour Wherever! Whenever! You can count on the artists at Gene Juarez to interpret these looks for you and make sense of the many messages churning out of the minds of fashion creatives. We believe that fashion is a jumping off point for enriching our lives and finding a version of ourselves to share with the world.

See the style section for all the details, the fashions that inspired us and our local apparel
partners that made this all possible.
