Hair Collection Update
There are many articles and comments going out re use or non-use of hair booms. BP is not using them. Not wanting them. Not asking for them. However, that has not stopped the effort to do whatever is or may be possible in helping the clean up and containment efforts. In particular, the organization we are working with, Matter of Trust, continues to seek the collection and donation of hair from us as they are continuing to make booms that can be used by local municipalities now and/or later in the efforts. Their latest update can be found on their website at
http://www.matteroftrust.org/about_us/pressRLS.html
Please know that our efforts are a small attempt to do something. Anything... to help. If hair is useful in this effort, the one thing we know is that Gene Juarez has a lot of hair that we can collect and send along. We believe that doing something rather than nothing in hope rather than pessimism, is the right thing to do. At this point, we are continuing to collect and will do so until we get a definitive direction from Matter of Trust. We are so proud of what we've collected thus far!

Hair Booms Collection Update
May 24, 2010
A number of reports have come down over the weekend regarding the use of and need for hair booms. We have latest information from our partner at Matter of Trust:
"YES we're still making boom! YES the hair and fur work. Sadly yes, thick oil has come in now to several areas of Louisiana."
The confusion stems from a report from BP that is just that -- confusing. Matter of Trust, our partner, assures us that they will accept and use the hair we collect and send in making the booms. Their website indicates they aren't accepting more donations but they are accepting from those of us that have signed up and partnered already.
We will continue to collect hair through June 2nd to meet their cut-off delivery date and will keep all posted as we learn more.

Thank you for your patience and understanding!

GJ Hair Clippings Donation To Help Oil Spill Efforts

Hair Cuts For A Cause!
We are proud to announce that we have partnered with MATTER OF TRUST and have mobilized an effort to collect all hair clippings that will be shipped to the Gulf of Mexico to help in the oil spill clean up and containment work.
The hair clippings are used to fill 'booms' which are tied together and used to encircle and contain oil spills and to keep oil from spreading. They protect fragile coves and habitats.
Matter of Trust is mobilizing the collection of hair for delivery to the Gulf of Mexico by June 10th at which point they will create the booms and determine additional donation needs. We are therefore collecting the hair clippings in all 12 of our salon and school locations from now until June 2 when they will be shipped to the Gulf to arrive by the June 10th cut-off date.
We are happy to help minimize further impact on the fragile ecosystems, beaches, harbors, and economies of the Gulf of Mexico and encourage all to get their hair cut over the coming days to add as much hair as possible to the effort.
Also, as there has been some conflicting and/or confusing reports, we want to confirm that we have researched and confirmed that hair booms are being requested and used with hopes to contain and absorb the oil. Salons across the country are being mobilized in the effort and we are proud to participate.
If you wish to gain more information regarding the Matter of Trust efforts, visit www.matteroftrust.org. Also, we will be reporting on our collection efforts and amounts via this blog, Facebook and Twitter, so please follow for updates.
