Spring Nail Colors

President Obama was quoted as saying to be calm. But, there is nothing calm about nail polish colors for spring—lush colors in rich hues of corals and pinks. Nails become an important accessory to complete your look! Check out these great colors from Essie:

  • Cantaloupe
  • California Coral
  • Canyon Coral
  • Can't Film Fest
  • Secret Stash

Beautiful Balayage

beautiful balayage
Spring is about reinvention, growth, change…a time where small changes can create transformation and make us feel so happy. One of the most important things that make us happy is when we know we look phenomenal!

Right now, we are all spending very carefully–thinking about what we do before we do it. Because hair is the accessory we wear everyday, investing in it is meaningful and rewarding. And small changes like adjusting your part, adding highlights around your face or getting a brow arch can create a great new and refreshed look. The result is we are rejuvenated, allowing us to feel current, youthful and importantly, beautiful!

This brings me to something that is dear to my heart. Balayage. Balayage is a highlighting technique that is customized to the individual. The reason we do this is so we have total control over the resulting look. We literally paint the highlights on to where we want movement and how we want to complement various layers. It is customized to the guest’s color, hair texture density and bone structure, allowing us to create more depth without brassiness. Other benefits of Balayage are that is grows out softer and more naturally at the scalp, allowing one to go longer between visits and best of all…it is healthier on the hair.

While we have been perfecting Balayage for years, many women are not aware of this technique. Let me assure you, it is the hottest technique in hair color right now–if you open any magazine and see a Gucci ad or an editorial fashion layout, all the models have the balayage technique.

My goal is to help women in Seattle to have the most current look. The color artists at Gene Juarez Salons and Spas have been perfecting this technique for years. In addition to training on the technique, we study Paris and New York fashion and, in hair color–it is balayage.

So with spring approaching, come to Gene Juarez for a personal consultation and let us help you reinvent yourself with perfect balayage!

Musing On Spring '09

Gene Juarez Spring 09
Last September as the markets turned something wonderful was happening simultaneously, Spring 09 Fashion Weeks in New York, Milan, and Paris went on! Beautiful clothes and beautiful girls paraded down the runways and fashion once again came alive with new ideas, new proportions and a new attitude. We were left with hope for the coming spring. The great thing about fashion it is an opportunity to explore a new mood or feeling and it is temporary. A change of an accessory or a hemline and you feel new and refreshed, and six months go by and the frivolous gets retired and the fabulous will continue to ‘shop from your closet’ for years to come.

We at Gene Juarez Salons distill the season’s numerous fashion collections into a palatable ‘Three Key Looks’. Then interpret the season trends with our expertise, heritage, and forward thinking insight into looks woman may actually wear. And most importantly inject the season with haircuts, colors, make-up and nail artistry that imbue the mood of the moment to truly help women Live Life Beautifully.

Our key looks…

The last few years’ women have been married to long hair. Now a haircut every woman can express her own style and rock an individual look. In March’s American Vogue writer Plum Sykes narrates the ‘just right’ hair length and asks ‘Why we have been so stuck in long hair and looking all the same?’ Plum’s words are a fascinating take on the new short hair trend and they have us all at Gene Juarez Salons saying ‘Revel the Cut’!

Softness is also making a huge comeback. Best expressed with curl. With curling irons moving at a Nascar speed we say ‘Unleash the Curl’ and show off your new cut with a new texture. With the seasons top fashion trend of mixing prints and jeweled colors we think curl bends the trend into a wearable feminine look that is suitable for so many women!

And of course we cannot forget an evening trend. Suiting and lounge wear have emerged as the night times’ take on special occasion. ‘Own the Look’ is our high fashion homage to Rock-a-billy and 70’s playboy glam. A sculpted chic hairstyle that is popping up in all the fashion editorials and was most recently interpreted by Kate Winslet on Oscar night for the winning Best Actress’ red carpet moment.
